SBA 7(a) loan calculator
Estimate the monthly payment and total interest on an SBA 7(a) loan from the rate and term your lender quotes.
How this is calculated
Payment = P × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)⁻ⁿ)
P = loan amount · r = annual rate ÷ 12 · n = years × 12.
Worked example
$500,000 at 10.5% for 10 years: r = 0.875% a month and n = 120, so the payment is $6,746.75. Over 120 payments you repay $809,609.98, of which $309,609.98 is interest.
Assumptions
- Fixed rate with equal monthly payments. Many 7(a) loans have a variable rate tied to the prime rate, so the payment can change.
- SBA’s upfront guaranty fee is not included yet — see the note with the results.
- Packaging, closing and other lender fees are not included.
Questions owners ask
What is an SBA 7(a) loan?
The U.S. Small Business Administration’s main loan program. A bank or other lender makes the loan and SBA guarantees part of it, which can mean longer terms than a typical business loan.
Does this include the SBA guaranty fee?
Not yet. SBA sets its upfront guaranty fee each fiscal year, and we will only add it once the current year’s figures have been verified. Until then, SBA’s own guaranty fee calculator (a spreadsheet on sba.gov) gives the fee for loans made in FY 2026, and your lender will confirm it.
How long are SBA 7(a) terms?
It depends on what the money is for. Loans for real estate usually run the longest; working capital and equipment are shorter. Your lender sets the term within SBA’s limits.
Is ScaleKit part of the SBA?
No. ScaleKit Financing is not a lender and is not affiliated with the U.S. Small Business Administration. We help businesses find independent providers, some of which offer SBA loans.
