How this is calculated
Payment = P × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)⁻ⁿ)
P = amount borrowed · r = annual rate ÷ payments per year · n = total payments. APR = the yearly rate at which the payments are worth exactly the funds you receive (amount minus fees).
Worked example
$100,000 at 10% for 5 years, paid monthly: r = 10% ÷ 12 = 0.8333% and n = 60, so the payment is $2,124.70. Over 60 payments you repay $127,482.27, of which $27,482.27 is interest. With a 3% fee you receive $97,000, which makes the APR 11.32%.
Assumptions
- Fixed rate and equal payments, made at the end of each period.
- Daily means business days: 252 payments a year.
- Fees are paid when the loan funds; no prepayment penalties or balloon payments.
- Totals use the exact payment. Lenders round each payment to the cent, so their figures can differ by a few cents.
Questions owners ask
Is this the payment I would get?
It is an estimate from the numbers you enter. Your actual rate, fees and term depend on the lender’s review of your revenue, credit, time in business and collateral.
What is the difference between the interest rate and the APR?
The interest rate sets the payment. The APR also counts fees you pay up front, so it shows the full yearly cost and is the better number for comparing offers.
Do daily or weekly payments cost more?
At the same annual rate, paying more often reduces interest slightly because the balance falls faster — but it takes cash out of the business sooner. Check that the payment works in a slow week.
Can I pay the loan off early?
Often yes, but some agreements charge a prepayment fee or keep all interest due. Ask how early payoff is priced before you sign.
